EDM Endures

EDM Festivals

As EDM infiltrates our airwaves and rave festivals take over venues country-wide, rave culture has come under more public scrutiny than ever before seen in the United States. What has thrived underground for over 15 years is now surfacing, and while thousands of people are developing their own personal romance with EDM, there are those who fear change and innovation who would like to see the emergence of rave culture squelched. These people are not unlike those who resisted Elvis Presley and the emergence of rock-and-roll in the ‘50s. It was feared and loathed by those who didn’t understand it, and it carried with it the risk of sexual promiscuity, drug and alcohol use, and general debauchery. But what great reward is attained without risk? If our forerunners had played it safe and

The Road to Rave Monopoly
May 8, 2013
News

EDM festivals and the rave culture which supports them are becoming a hot commodity. Whether you're on board with how popular the entire electronic music scene is becoming or not, there's no denying that EDM festivals are in high demand. Just look at how many randos were super stoked for Coachella. The public is loving that stuff right now, which is great news for the few production companies existing today that produce the large-scale festivals. The current oligopolybenefits fans as well because the competition between companies drives down ticket prices and brings in better lineups. There are only a few production companies in America which produce EDM festivals. Insomniac Events and HARD Events are two big ones. But just recently, LiveNation (concert production, not EDM) bought

Where To Find New Dubstep Music
May 1, 2013
EDM Blogs
-
A common issue people have when trying to listen to dubstep is they just don' t know where to start. If you've never listened to dubstep before, I would highly recommend listening to Pandora's Dubstep station. The music they play is all the best stuff from a few years ago, they include all the great artists who've furthered the genre, and I think it's the perfect introduction for someone who's never heard dubstep. But let's say you are looking for new music, preferably for download, preferably for free download. It can be hard to know where to start looking. Take heart because it's simple: most people get their new music from music blogs.
Music blogs are awesome, because they do the work for you. Artists and labels release stuff on places like SoundCloud, Beatport, sometimes

“Explaining Rave Culture to Americans”
April 26, 2013
News

Dallas Dubstep Drops is about dubstep, and pretty mainstream dubstep at that. It isn't about EDM or rave culture, but the two overlap since dubstep's origins are in European dance music. So I just found this great article written by Clive Martin for vice.com. It's called "Explaining Rave Culture to Americans."Martin is from Europe, which is made very clear in the article. Although he takes a condescending attitude toward Americans, he makes excellent points which many Americans need to understand. I think everyone can agree that the emergence of rave culture in America over the past few years has attracted people with the bright lights and upbeat music, but those people don't always understand what it is really all about.
The article makes necessary distinctions and provides

ONE MORE DAY! I'm so excited for Meltdown tomorrow, it's going to be amazinggg! If you want to go and have $85 to spend on it, you can still buy tickets here.Today, I am happy to bring my last two Meltdown artists, W&W and 12th Planet.
A Dutch duo from The Netherlands, W&W makes progressive house trance. Wardt van der Harst and Willem van Hanegem, (try saying that three times fast), joined up in 2007. Since the beginning their songs have been played internationally by artists like Tiesto and Armen van Buuren, as well as played at international festivals themselves.
The duo defines their style as "big room trance with a techy edge." They do have a big room sound, which will be amazing to hear in the cool of the evening tomorrow. Although it's not dubstep, I've grown in

With the festival only 3 days away, the venue for Meltdown Music Festival 2013 has been changed from QuikTrip Park in Grand Prairie (where it was last year), to LaGrave Field in Ft. Worth Texas. This should be a good thing for us fans, since the ballpark in Ft. Worth has fewer noise restrictions and will allow more extended festival hours.
